Foreign Language Requirements

 

All students, in their first year of studies, are obliged to attend the lessons ‘Foreign Language’ I & II for three hours per week. Similarly, in the second year, students are obliged to attend the modules ‘Foreign Language and Terminology’ I & II for another three hours per week.
Students who have an adequate knowledge of the foreign language can be exempted from the obligation to attend classes in the 1st year. This exemption is obtained upon successful completion of an examination on the syllabus of the course which would be taught, and which is taken at the beginning of each academic year.
The marks in the abovementioned courses appear in the student’s transcript without affecting the status of the student in that academic year, or his final degree grade.

 

Grading System

 

The grading scale ranges from 0 to 10, where 5.0 is the minimum passing mark. There are four grades levels, which corresponding to the following marks: Excellent: 8.5 – 10.0

 


Very good: 6.5 – 8.5
Good: 5.0 – 6.5
Failure: below 5.0

The final degree mark is a weighted average of all modules’ marks with the following weighting factors:
Courses of 1 or 2 credits: weighting factor = 1.0
Courses of 3 credits: weighting factor = 1.5
Courses with 4 or more credits: weighting factor = 2.0
